Most Anticipated YA Books of 2020!

Hey everyone! Welcome back to my blog, I hope you’re having a brilliant day! There’s just one day left until the end of term, and I’m so excited. Handed in my final two assignments today, and had my last violin lesson of THE DECADE… scary times. But I hope things are going well for you, and that you’re excited for the holidays! ❤

I’m very excited for today’s post – we’re going to be looking at some of my most anticipated YA books to be released in 2020! I’ve spent a very long time on Goodreads, as well as digging through articles and tweets to get all of the books I’m super hyped for next year. Worth it 👍 Without any further ado, let’s get straight into the books! There will definitely be some that I’ve missed so let me know in the comments if your anticipated 2020 read isn’t here! Enjoy 🙂

JANUARY

• Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibañez (Jan 7th) – this book sounds extravagant, and I’m very excited for it! Politics, romance, and history? YES PLEASE. I’ve heard so many great things, and also this cover is STUNNING!
• We Used to be Friends by Amy Spalding (Jan 7th) – I’ve never read a book with one POV going forward in time and the other going back, and it sounds like something I need to try. Also, bestie breakups are often the saddest. Bring out the tissues ASAP!
• Every Other Weekend by Abigail Johnson (Jan 7th) – I am a total sucker for this type of book. Two people, with lives falling apart, who somehow find comfort in each other… ❤

• Infinity Son by Adam Silvera (Jan 14th) – SILVERA FANTASY ALERT. We have been BLESSED. This book sounds amazing – it follows two brothers during a magical war, and I have never been more ready. So excited for this one!
• Tweet Cute by Emma Lord (Jan 21st) – Twitter wars? Yes please. Enemies to lovers? YES please. This sounds fluffy, cute, light-hearted, and perfect. Sign me up please!
• Don’t Read the Comments by Eric Smith (Jan 28th) – I don’t know a whole lot about this one, but it looks like it involves gaming/streaming of some kind, so I’m willing to give it a shot. I really like this cover, too!

FEBRUARY

• The Stars We Steal by Alexa Donne (Feb 4th) – another gorgeous cover! Two former best friends, an engagement, and a sci-fi retelling? This one again sounds incredible, and very enthralling.
• The Gravity of Us by Phil Stamper (Feb 4th) – nope this one sounds too good, I can’t deal with it. A gay romance plus NASA and space stuff?! AMAZING! Like, this is the perfect book. Every element of this is beautiful. I’m so hyped!
• Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed (Feb 4th) – in general I love Becky Albertalli’s books, so definitely going to try and read this one! Cute love story with an election at the centre of it – up my alley for sure. I’ve never read anything from Aisha Saeed before but very excited to try!

MARCH

• Every Reason We Shouldn’t by Sara Fujimura (March 3rd) – okay, this is hands down one of my most-anticipated on this list. The description says there will be ice skating, Korean pastries, and all the feels. This sounds like it’s going to become my new fave book, so very excited for this one! The reviews I’ve seen are all glowing, which is a good sign.
• The Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu (March 3rd) – as a music geek, I am SO EXCITED for this one! It’s about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s sister, Nannerl, and her aspirations to become a musician and a composer as a woman in the 18th century. When I first heard about this one, I screamed because I knew it would be perfect!!
• Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales (March 3rd) – another book that sounds amazing! March 3rd is going to be a good day, wow. This is described as Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda meets Clueless, inspired by Grease. If that doesn’t sound awesome, I don’t know what does. Also, Ollie sounds like someone I can really relate to, and I think he’ll be a great protagonist.

• Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare (March 3rd) – Cassandra Clare is one of those authors I literally have to buy. Plus, this new series sounds incredible (if not slightly confusing, I always get the kids of the TID characters mixed up 😂) Cover is stunning, and I’m very excited to delve back into the world of the Shadowhunters!
• Harley in the Sky by Akemi Dawn Bowman (March 10th) – this book follows a girl named Harley who pursues her dreams of becoming a trapeze artist, and the highs and lows of following her heart. I love books that are set in or around circuses, and this one sounds promising! Another great cover on this one, too.
• All Your Twisted Secrets by Diana Urban (March 17th) – YA mystery/thriller? YES. I don’t read enough of these books but I absolutely love them and this one seems to be no exception. A scholarship dinner that turns out to be a death trap – what’s not to love? Also, these character tropes sound like something I can get behind – as corny as it seems, I love the stereotype thing going on here, where throughout the book these images are broken down and the characters get a chance to show how developed and well-rounded they are.

APRIL

• The Lucky Ones by Liz Lawson (April 7th) – this book sounds like a hard-hitting but very important read (trigger warning necessary, though). It follows May, the survivor of a school shooting in which her twin brother died, and Zach, who lost everything when his mother defended the shooter. I like the idea that they both find some comfort, and maybe some closure, in each other. Looking forward to this one.
• The Best Laid Plans by Cameron Lund (April 7th) – on a lighter note, this book is going to be a hilarious read, by the looks of things. I’m a sucker for cheesy rom-coms and this will definitely satisfy that guilty pleasure! Keely sounds like a very relatable and honest protagonist, and that’s always something I love in a book. It basically follows her dilemma of trying to get some experience with guys before college, and all the problems that come with high school life. Perfection!
• Loveless by Alice Oseman (April 30th) – did somebody say aro-ace rep? DID THEY? I’ve never read any of Alice Oseman’s books before (despite how many good things I’ve heard about them, I know) but I’m confident she’s going to nail this one. Georgia is going to be an awesome main character, very excited for this book!

MAY

• Running by Natalia Sylvester (May 5th) – THIS ONE THOUGH. It sounds too good, I’m so excited! It follows a teen girl named Mari who starts to realize her dad is not the man she thought he was when he runs for president. This is another one of my most-anticpiated, it sounds like such a cool idea and all of the reviews are stellar!
• When You Get the Chance by Tom Ryan and Robin Stevenson (May 5th) – so from what I’ve heard, this book is basically a road trip to Toronto pride, aka AMAZING! Sounds super queer and I am very excited for that. I didn’t even know I needed this book until I heard about it, and suddenly I’m all over it. Also having two cousins as the main characters!!! Don’t know why but I’m living for this idea. Two gay cousins going to pride together… what more could a girl want?
• Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust (May 12th) – cover goals, right?! 😍 Reviews for this one are off-the-charts, and I’m really hyped for it. I think it’s about a badass princess who doesn’t sit around wallowing, like all the others, but instead takes control of her own life and isn’t afraid to live boldly. And a bisexual MC? I might cry with happiness ❤

• Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo (May 14th) – after With the Fire on High (read my review here!) I’m 100% sure I’ll love any book written by Elizabeth Acevedo, and this one sounds like it’s going to be incredible. It follows two girls who find out they are sisters when their father dies in a plane crash, and I think it will be a really thoughtful and worthwhile read.
• The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins (May 19th) – I’m a bit apprehensive about this one, as I usually am with prequels, but definitely still going to give it a shot! Don’t know much about the plot but I’m excited to get back into the Hunger Games world.
• I Kissed Alice by Anna Birch (May 26th) – described as a mix between Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and Fangirl (two of my favourite books ever!!!), this is another enemies to lovers book that I am totally here for. I’m looking to read some more f/f books because I seem to have read almost none, and this one sounds like it’s going to be so cute ❤

JUNE

• Reconnected by Catherine Tinker (June 1st) – this one sounds so cute and sweet and everything I like in a book. We love the friendship betrayal trope and the friendship break-up trope, and also the ex-friends to lovers trope (is that a thing? It is now). HYPED.
• The Falling in Love Montage by Ciara Smyth (June 9th) – ahhhh the cover! Another f/f book I’m looking forward to in the coming year. Saoirse has a strict no-relationship rule but she’s going to break it with a girl named Ruby. They plan to have just one summer of fun and cringy rom-com dates, but I’m guessing they’ll end up actually in love by the end of it! This is like my dream book. Full stop.
• Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Solomon (June 16th) – yet another enemies to lovers, except this one takes place in just a day and is about two overachievers who constantly strive to be better than the other. In other words, my kind of book!
